Despite the cold & foggy start, the Goondiwindi & District Vehicle Restorers Association’s 3rd annual Show & Shine was a roaring success with sunshine, v8’s, Harleys and more.
The Heritage Waterpark was the perfect venue for live music, market stalls, facepainting, our local Rotarians cooking a BBQ lunch and hot coffees from Shot 2 U Coffee Van. The trade stalls were also kept busy with the sale of car products and memorabilia.
GDVRA was overwhelmed by the response and support from the community. At our final count we had 130 vehicles entered into the show and 100’s more through the gate to view some of the most outstanding vehicles in the district and beyond. The Show & Shine attracted visitors from Inverell, Moree, Walcha, Toowoomba and Brisbane. Our furthest travelled entrant came all the way from Yamba NSW and picked up The Merv Danes trophy for his effort.
We were lucky to have four iconic Australian motor racing cars on display on Saturday. The Group A SS Brock Commodores earned Peter Brock the nickname King of The Mountain in the 80’s and they certainly drew a crowd.
Chris Edmonds lit up the water park with his methanol charged superboats and showed outstanding driving skills on the water. It certainly was the highlight of the day to witness Piston Broke Jetsprinting and we hope Chris can join us again for another display.
Judging is always a tough job and this year included 20 categories for trophies. European, American, military and machinery were contested well and Holden, Ford and the utes are always favourites with the crowd. A donated framed drawing of a classic car bought about some extra fun with an auction.
After our successful day, 65 show entrants and their families attended a last minute ‘meet and greet’ at the Royal Hotel. This dinner, drinks and debrief was well received by all and we hope to make it a tradition each year.
As a club we are yet again humbled by the sponsorship and support we received from local business houses.
Save the date for 2023! We are working towards the 3rd Saturday of June again for our next show.
