Texas Jockey Club President David โTagsโ Thompson had a smile as wide as his sun smart hat as he surveyed the huge crowd enjoying themselves at the Clubโs annual Cup meeting on Saturday.
You only needed to hear the impressive Fashions on the Field contestants interviewed to realise people from many parts of Queensland and NSW had journeyed to the border town, many of them former Texans who make the Cup meeting an annual pilgrimage home.
The club has continued an impressive programme of improvements over the years, particularly shade, and local groups came together to assist in providing a wide variety of food and drink, tables and chairs, a fact acknowledged by โTagsโ at the end of the day.
On the track the favourite DALTORO trained by Matt Kropp and ridden by Emma MacPherson withstood a late challenge from TRUMP ME to win the Texas Cup which was again sponsored by popular local accountant Jeff Hannaford.
Former jockey-turned-trainer Joshua Morrow landed his first winner when LYNRIC LASS won the final event. Other winners on the day were HEROโS TRINKET, SHEEZASINGA and DEDORโS LAD.
But the real winners were the many hundreds of people who had a great day (and night) at the Texas Cup.

2022 Texas Cup Race Day done and certainly dusted!
Well worth the wait due to the pandemic, border closures and flooding!
A huge thanks to all Owners and Trainers who make the trek to Texas. We all know that Itโs not an easy task to win at the The Texas Races with the calibre of horses that nominate. We arenโt known as The Race that Stops the Region for no reason. Itโs a tough gig!!
To the volunteers who are still working at the track today and over the next 12 months until the next Texas Cup, a massive thanks. These people are the back bone of our Club and we definitely could not run a successful day with out your hard worked months, weeks and hours. You guys turn up day after day, weekend after weekend and itโs acknowledged. If your keen to help, the clean up and pack down is under way now!! If you mowed, slashed, served beer, set up tables, organised vendors, done the admin work, paid the bills, ordered the beer, cleaned the facilities, cooked a feed, worked in the canteen or at the gate, sold tickets, set up photo props, painted, cleaned, worked behind the barriers, took photos, presented a trophy or prize or done anything to help us, you are a gem. Please know we appreciate you. The amount of work it takes to pull this day off is incredible and we did it!!
To the Sponsors – thank you for trusting us with your hard earned cash. We love to advertise and promote businesses and we love to involve you. Again, a day like this is not possible without you. We appreciate ever $$ and vouchers you have provided us with to ensure our day is a success.
Once again, thanks to all involved. A great Committee and a great working committee.
Now, time to start organising the 2023 Texas Cup!
