The team of Holy Trinity Church Goondiwindi
We believe “diversity in unity” is God’s way, empowering us through differing gifts and talents to be used for the good of community. Our ministries are run on team leadership principles, which is encouraged by our current Rector.
The leadership team comprises experienced locals:
- Priest in Charge: The Reverend Kay Hart 07-46714151
- Priest’s Warden: Gail Toohey 07-46711476
- People’s Wardens: Joann Warden 07-46712971 / John St Clair 07-46711751
Holy Trinity Church is located in the Goondiwindi Anglican Parish. The first recorded service in the district, officiated by Archdeacon Glennie, took place at “Wyaga Station” in 1848. According to a memorial inscription on the altar “Mr Young built the first C. of E. House of Prayer in the district” which we think was a chapel that once existed at Umbercollie. There was also a station chapel at Callandoon, the remains of which were destroyed by fire in 1926.
For the past 130 years, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church has been a central place of Christ’s light in a vast Parish district which by 1906 covered 16,000 square miles: including Gore, Inglewood and Texas to the east, Talwood to the west and Koorangarra in the north. The first church building on the current site in Bowen Street, Goondiwindi, was completed in 1882 after 11 years of planning, fund raising and public subscription. The timber church was consecrated by the Right Reverend Matthew Blagden Hale, Bishop of Brisbane on Sunday 23rd April, 1882 and remained in use until the current brick church building, three times the size of the old timber structure, was completed in 1939.
As the body of Christ, we believe that all people are precious in God’s sight and we aim to be a lovingly inclusive community of faith. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, and encourage growth and relationships through small groups. Children’s church every Sunday provides a friendly fun-filled environment within which children can learn and grow spiritually. We are an active group, volunteering in local service clubs, Kaloma Home for the Aged, Hospital Auxiliary, Blue Care, Meals on Wheels, CARE Goondiwindi, Religious Education in Schools, Pastoral Care visiting and Et Cetera Opportunity Shop.
