Goondiwindi Garden Club – Hunt & Henderson Gardens
September 11, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm$5
Nik and Troy Hunt
Address: 102 Sandalwood Drive, Goondiwindi
Nik and Troy describe themselves as ‘accidental gardeners’. When they purchased their home, they inherited a fairly mature garden that was quite overgrown – particularly with large trees. Over time, they have removed some of these, reconfigured existing beds and created some new garden areas. The garden is still very much a work in progress. They have created a mix of formal and rambling cottage style gardens with lots of beautiful roses. It’s a lovely private and peaceful space surrounding their home.
Jo and Mike Henderson
Address: 104 Sandalwood Drive, Goondiwindi
Jo and Mike’s garden was originally a part of the block behind (now belonging to Nik and Troy Hunt). When subdivided the perimeter had large trees established and now only one of the original trees are left being the Chinese Elm at the back.
They have previously hosted a garden day with the Goondiwindi Garden Club (3 combined neighbour’s gardens) when the garden was young. Over the last 15 years the garden has aged with them. Trees have been removed and new ones planted to create a canopy of shade in summer, with the deciduous trees a colourful autumn display and a sunny protected haven in Winter. The large variety of parrots and other birds visiting are a bonus. Being a small garden the borrowed landscape from the neighbours trees is a great advantage as well.
They are lucky to have access to the Macintyre River water from the 6 meter river access attached to their block. Although with the amount of floods lately it has played havoc with the pump and water supply. A relaxed chilled attitude to gardening to enjoy the benefits of the different seasons is their aim.
