Introductory Leadlighting – Class Structure
Day one
After some initial safety discussion, day one will involve understanding what leadlighting is and measuring frames to complete the initial design process. Learning the correct skills to cut glass is extremely important and will play a large role in the first day. Colour choice is important so there will be a discussion involving this. Using your glass cutting skills you have learnt, you will begin to prepare the glass for your project. Grinding your glass to ensure accuracy, is the next step.
Day Two
After coffee of course, the leading up stage will begin. This can be a complicated process so lots of instruction will see you through to the next stage… soldering your panel. Now it starts to look like a window! After the second side is soldered, it’s time to get dirty in order to strengthen and waterproof the window. But wait……there’s more……
The final stage……..polishing and fitting your panel to its frame.
If there is enough time left in the day, we will make a small ‘copper foiled’ butterfly.
Along the way you will be inspired, laugh amongst your friends, and be engrossed in the world of glass and its possibilities!!
