The Milky Way and our world through the lens exhibition is showcasing images by the Goondiwindi Photography club through their eyes we take a different view of our surroundings. The highlight of the exhibition inspired by the master class with photographer David Magro the club created images of the Milky Way taken earlier this year, through their lenses, we’re able to see our galaxy in a way that our naked eye cannot perceive.
This was made possible with a grant obtained through the Regional Arts Development Fund which is a Queensland Government and Goondiwindi Regional Council partnership to support local arts and culture.
Welcome to our exhibition: The Milly Way and Our World Through the Lens.
The Goondiwindi Photography Club (GPC) has had many enjoyable experiences as a community club since it began in December 2003.
Our focus as a club is to encourage & support hobbyist and enthusiasts in understanding, experimenting and developing the technicalities, art, creativity and enjoyment that photography offers.
Regular activities conducted through the club are:
(a) The Monthly Comp –
Members submit entries to a selection of online judges who give critique on two set subjects and two open subjects. The points are accrued and the winner receives the ongoing trophy at the end of the year.
(b) The annual end of year ‘6 or 12 Shot Comp’-
A list of subjects are shot within a two hour period straight from camera with no post production processing.
(c) Excursion Shoots to local and regional areas.
(d) Various workshops on site or on-line.
Club members and the community have benefited from numerous professional workshops initiated by the standing committee of the time. e.g. portraiture, storm chasing, landscape, street photography, knowing your camera.
Working our way round Covid restrictions many members have enjoyed on-line workshops offered by the creative and artistic photographer, Len Metcalf (Sydney).
In June 2021 members embraced the ‘MilkyWay Season’ and attended a most enlightening workshop conducted by David Magro, ‘The MilkyWay Masterclass’. This was made possible with a grant obtained through the Regional Arts Development Fund which is a Queensland Government and Goondiwindi Regional Council partnership to support local arts and culture.
We may be West of the Divide but that is no boundary to inhibit our activity and profile. We are a member of the Photography Society of Queensland (PSQ). Through this association and enterprising club members the Goondiwindi Photography Club(GPC) hosted the National Photographic Convention in June 2011.
Since its conception club members have been shooting through lenses attached to SLR (Single Lens Reflex) film cameras, DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) digital cameras, DSLM (digital Single Lens Mirrorless ) mirrorless cameras and as technology has advanced phone cameras.
The presiding club committee and members always welcome new membership and community involvement. In the Spring of 2020 members supported a cross community project initiated by the Goondiwindi Botanical Gardens in photographing the garden’s plants for a pictorial itemisation.
Aileen Russell (President) invites interested photographers to join the Goondiwindi Photography Club.
