Goondiwindi Hawks โ May 6th
Juniors
Hawks 4.4 (28) lost to Coolaroo 7.0 (42)
The junior Hawks had a great game against Coolaroo. It is so exciting to see juniors once again playing for the Hawks and they are quickly improving. After a quick start by Coolaroo, the Hawks worked hard to get back into the game. For large parts of the second half the Hawks dominated field position and worked together as a team to challenge their bigger and more experienced Toowoomba opponents. Congratulations to all players on a great team effort, we look forward to watching this team develop over the rest of the season. We are also keen to hear from any further players who would be interested in joining our junior side. Training is at 5pm on Tuesday afternoons at Riddles Oval with coaches Dave OโToole and Christina Ash. The age cut off for this age group is July 1st 2010 (anyone born after this is eligible to play โ and registration is free!)
Womenโs
Hawks 5.1 (31) defeated Saints 2.3 (15)
This was a great win for the new look Hawks side bouncing back from a loss in Toowoomba last week. With a new coach, new captainโs and some new players in the squad the early signs are promising as they develop their new style. Bec McMillan was terrific in defence attacking the ball at every opportunity and Christina Ash has shown good early form again after a strong season last year. Kendell Ross is doing well in her first season and took some strong marks. This side has a lot of potential and with team work and determination can achieve big things in 2023.
Menโs
Hawks 15.16 (106) defeated Saints 4.1 (25)
The menโs side has seen a lot of changes from last year too with nine players on Saturday in their first season of footy with the Hawks. Despite this team work was the key to a good performance against the Saints, with the Hawks linking up well through handball chains to create space. Another pleasing aspect was the spread of goal kickers with 11 different players scoring goals on the day. New captain Sam McNaughton was terrific playing in the midfield and was helped by the excellent ruckwork of Will Rogers. Paddy Inglis was threatening in the forward line and was deserving winner of the Playerโs Player Award for the day.
Sponsorโs Day
Saturday was Sponsorโs Day for the Hawks and it was great to see a large contingent of our sponsors at the footy enjoying the day. The club is hugely grateful to all of our many sponsors throughout the community. The support we receive has enabled the club to develop significantly over the past few years and offer great initiatives to increase participation like free registration for our junior players in 2023.
Next week all three teams head to Toowoomba to face Coolaroo at Rockville Park.
