On the weekend of 17 & 18 September 2022 a yard dog training school, sponsored by Inland Rail, was held at the Inglewood Showgrounds.
On Saturday 17 September the beginner school was held with 12 handlers and their working dogs and approximately 30 fence sitters attending the day. During the course of the beginner school, handlers were instructed on how to navigate their stock through the yards. By the end of the day the improvement in the handlers and their dog was great to see.
On Sunday 18 September an intermediate school was held with similar attendance numbers to the previous day. This day attracted local stockman and more advanced yard dog trialers looking to improve their handling skills. A number of beginners from the previous day also attended the intermediate school as fence sitters. At the end of day 2, a mock yard dog trial was held and it was great to see the handlers get through the course.
The weekend was a great success. Our objective at Inglewood Working Dogs is to promote good stockmanship and to encourage people to try the sport of yard dog trialing. Sponsored training days like these enable us to work towards achieving our objective.
