The annual Goondiwindi Hawks AFL Ladies Day was held yesterday at the nest and proved to be a huge success. A large crowd consisting of members from the local community gathered together to enjoy an afternoon of football, live music and good times.
The men’s team had a commanding win against the Toowoomba Tigers with a score of 60 points. Dougal Sweeney was awarded the player’s player award, and Patty Inglis impressed the spectators with 10 goals in the match, making the standout forward for the day.
The women’s team showed great determination throughout their match, however, them going down 43-8 was not what the crowd was hoping for. Dodie Wilson received the player’s player award for her admirable efforts on the field.
The day’s highlight was without a doubt the juniors who secured their first win of the season. After being behind at three-quarter time, the team rallied and kept the opposition scoreless, eventually emerging as winners with an impressive score of 52-35. The youngsters showed great teamwork, with Charlie North and Sam Bishop leading the charge.
