Last night, the Goondiwindi Regional Civic Centre Art Space came alive with the vibrant and captivating artwork of local artist, Jane Henry. Her exhibition, “Local Ties,” was met with overwhelming support from family and friends and a special thanks to those who travelled from Texas.
Jane Henry, a talented forager and collector, draws inspiration from the gifts of nature and dusty, rusted objects. Growing up in the Dumaresq Valley, Texas, her rural upbringing has strongly influenced her art. The surroundings of her cattle property serve as a constant reminder of her deep connection to the land.
The exhibition showcases a stunning collection of artwork that beautifully incorporates Australian native flora. Jane masterfully combines traditional stitches with organic materials on paper, a medium typically reserved for painting and drawing. Each intricate design is painstakingly created by hand-stitching foraged natural items that have been carefully dissected and cleaned.
It is not uncommon for a single artwork to contain up to 1,000 individual stamens, highlighting the meticulous nature of Jane’s creative process. Through her art, she aims to offer a fresh perspective on the natural beauty found in everyday objects. These ephemeral materials are preserved using natural cotton/linen threads and archival-quality cotton paper, ensuring long-lasting beauty when sealed inside frames.
The “Local Ties” exhibition is a testament to Jane’s love for her native surroundings and her passion for the intricate details of nature. It is a celebration of her rural upbringing and the artistic talents she has honed throughout her life. Visitors can expect to be captivated by the beauty and creativity on display.
