Motherland, a national charity that supports rural mothers across Australia, has announced its first Motherโs Day event which will be held in Goondiwindi next month.
Local farmer and Motherlandโs Queensland Ambassador Alice Woods will host an afternoon tea on Sunday May 21st to celebrate and connect mums across the Goondiwindi region and beyond, while raising awareness of Motherland and its mission.
Guest speaker, Motherland founder and CEO Stephanie Trethewey, will share her story. Stephanie, a journalist and beef farmer from Tasmania, was named the 2022 National Rural Woman of the Year for her work creating Motherland.

All proceeds from the Motherland fundraiser will go directly to the charity and enable the organisation to continue to grow its impact. The Motherland podcast, which shares real and raw stories of rural motherhood every week, recently clocked half a million downloads, and Motherland Village, Australiaโs first online rural motherโs group program has connected over 150 rural mothers to their own personalised support group.
The core focus of the program is to reduce isolation and create meaningful connections for rural mums. 90 percent of women who say they were struggling with their mental health before joining Motherland Village say the program improved it.
Alice Woods enrolled in Motherland Village over a year ago with nine other rural mums from around the country. She now calls them some of her closest friends.
โMotherland Village was a saviour for me after having my second child. The ladies in my group are still a huge part of my life. We celebrate the wins together, but also support each other through the hard times. Being the Queensland Ambassador for Motherland is something I am so passionate about, to help other rural mums find their village.โ
Recently appointed Queensland Chief Entrepreneur and Goondiwindi businesswoman Julia Spicer, who also sits on Motherlandโs board, will also attend the event.
This region is great at supporting family and community causes, and certainly the work that Motherland is doing ensures that we have strong mothers and women in our communities. Iโm proud to be on the board of Motherland, and events like this that help bring mothers and friends together are criticalโ said Julia.
Several Goondiwindi businesses are supporting the fundraiser, and a raffle with incredible prizes valued at more than $3,000 in total will be drawn on the day.
Limited tickets are now on sale at motherlandaustralia.com.au/events.
