Co-hosts Marya Hayward and Merrilyn Williams with the support of the Texas Golf Club hosted their first PINK RIBBON BREAKFAST on Sunday 20th October. Enduring the worst drought in decades this amazing community dug deep and approximately 100 adults and children supported the breakfast and participated in the silent auction and raffle.
We also heard the journey of two local ladies Mary Schwartz and Irene Thompson, who have experienced breast cancer in the past two years. They are truly inspirational women and there were a few tears shed for them and their families, fortunately they are both leading healthy lives now.
Our community has had many family members or friends who have been through this experience some with great outcomes and some not so and some in treatment at the moment. The strong message from our speakers was to be aware of any changes in your breast and seek medical assistance early.
This money now goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation supporting targeted breast cancer research – research that is selected for its potential to reap tangible, game-changing results. The foundation at present has a number of groundbreaking research projects focusing on the prevention, detection and treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
Marya and Merrilyn would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and support.
