On the weekend of 24th and 25th June, 2023, committee members in the tiny township of Weengallon welcomed junior competitors, families and spectators to the annual Junior Campdraft & Rodeo.
Competitors and spectators travelled great distances to contest the many events on offer over the weekend. Two days of Campdrafting and Rodeo were held with competitors competing in two rounds of Junior Campdraft, Juvenile Campdraft, 17-U21 Campdraft, barrel races, steer rides and novice events including bareback, saddle bronc and bull rides.
Campdraft cattle were kindly supplied by locals the Rigney Family and Southern Family. Most competitors went away with a score on the board thanks to the beautiful running of these cattle. Campdraft Judges, Stephen Wells, Cameron Jones and Lachie Maxwell saw close scores and good rounds being completed from the young upcoming competitors with a couple of the drafts being decided with a run off. David and Cherie Tattam and family kindly donated a Service Fee to Darma Acres Slim N Dust to be awarded to the Highest Scoring horse and rider combination over the weekend. The excited winner was Zane Renyard riding Kooloombah Topaz.
Announcers Phil Hart, Tamworth and local Angus Rigney kept the weekend rolling whilst Rodeo Judges Mick Gray, Tamworth and David Kelly, Upper Horton, had a tough weekend with some brilliant rides in the rodeo arena and close times in the barrel races.
Weengallon Show & Sporting Association would like to thank the many volunteers whose efforts helped make the weekend a resounding success together with the generous sponsors who contributed to the weekend.
